Automatic Watches

Automatic watches do not operate on batteries. Automatic watches are made up of about 130 or more parts that work together to tell time. Automatic movements mark the passage of time by a series of gear mechanisms, and are wound by the movement of your wrist as you wear it. The gear train then transmits the power to the escapement, which distributes the impulses, turning the balance wheel. The balance wheel is the time regulating organ of a mechanical watch, which vibrates on a spiral hairspring. Lengthening or shortening the balance spring makes the balance wheel go faster or slower to advance or retard the watch. The travel of the balance wheel from one extreme to the other and back again is called oscillation. Lastly, automatic movements come in different types, including movements that are Swiss-made, Japanese-made, and more.

Also referred to as self-winding, watches with automatic movements utilize kinetic energy, the swinging of your arm, to provide energy to an oscillating rotor to keep the watch ticking. They're considered more satisfying to watch collectors (horologists) because of the engineering artistry that goes into the hundreds of parts that make up the movement. If you do not wear an automatic watch consistently (for about 8 to 12 hours a day), you can keep the watch powered with a watch winder (a great gift for collectors).

Plunge into any horizon using the steadfast guidance of the Invicta Pro Diver. Stylishly classic, internal workings are forged with variations of either Swiss chronograph or 21-jewel automatic movements and willingly navigate in depths up to 300 meters. Built with confident prowess, the fortitude with which these timepieces function makes the Pro Diver the quintessential in performance.

Screw Down Crowns: Many Invicta watches are equipped with a screw down crown to help prevent water infiltration. This is most common on our Diver models. In order to adjust the date and/or time on such a watch, you must first unscrew the crown before you can gently pull it out to its first or second click stop position. To do this, simply rotate the crown counterclockwise until it springs open. When you have finished setting the watch, the crown must then be pushed in and screwed back in tightly. Not doing so will cancel the water resistance of the watch and will void all warranties from the manufacturer. Overall, this process should not require a lot of effort or force.

4 out of 5 stars Good for the price   August 7, 2010
David Dare (Newport, RI USA)
I purchased the Invicta Men's 8926 after a I'd heard about it from a few of my co-workers. I was looking for a mechanical watch with an automtic movement for regular daily use. While this watch is basically a knock-off of the Rolex Submariner, it is fine for the price (less than $70) and keeps time good enough for me. I have had to change the time only once since setting it the first time as it does advance a few minutes over a couple weeks or so. I wear it practically every day, so if it isn't worn as often this may be less of an issue.

2 out of 5 stars Buyer Beware!   August 6, 2010
Joellen Corrocher (Philadelphia, PA)
To keep it simple, this is a GREAT looking watch but if it breaks, good luck!! My husband wore this watch for less than 5 months and it broke. As another reviewer also stated, a regular watch repair shop was not able to fix it. We ended up having to pay $52 in shipping to get the repair done that was covered under warranty!! The watch had to be shipped by us to a US location. Once they received it they contacted us to say the repairs were covered but we had to pay the shipping and it needed to be fixed overseas :( so much for a warranty :( be cautious in purchasing this item.

1 out of 5 stars Poor quality   July 29, 2010
BruisedAlmighty (MD)
After wearing it daily for a couple of months, the pin that holds the safety for the fold-over-clasp broke down. I didn't want to get rid of the safety, so I let it hang in there until it just fell off one day without me noticing. Then a few months after while I was walking, the watch just fell off of my wrist. The pin for the fold-over-clasp somehow broke so the bracelet got disengaged. I didn't bother looking for the pin anymore.

3 out of 5 stars Nice appearance, poor quality control   July 26, 2010
B. Andrews (Rolla, Mo.)
I recently purchased this watch. It looked nice but I was settling for it because I did not want to spend 3 times as much on the one I wanted. With the reviews, I thought I might get a good one and be happy. The odds were against me.

Pros:
1) Solid build
2) Looks neat from the back
3) Clasp has a safety on it
4) Bezel is painted with good stuff

Cons:
1) Poor quality control. The automatic wind would not retain more than a minute. The manual wind achieved 4 minutes.
2) The date lens is raised quite a bit and is not strong enough to justify having it. If it scratches, bad, it will be useless.
Because of its height, it probably will scratch quickly.
3) The clasp did not have a push button release so it will wear out more quickly than better clasps.
4) The warranty service is poor and costs more than it is worth. Instead of getting it fixed right, I just returned it and will
not buy another Invicta again.

5 out of 5 stars Great Watch!   July 23, 2010
Obie1
I bought this thinking that if it only lasts me a year, then it was still a pretty good deal at this price. I've had this watch for over two years now, and it's been great! I wear it pretty much every day. The mechanism is very true, only losing time if I don't happen to wear it for a day or two. The crystal has been very durable too (I've whacked it a couple times). If you're looking for a automatic watch but don't have a ton to spend, get one of these. You won't regret it!
